Sketch of the Day

Free comic book day at Earth 2 last Saturday was awesome! It was a huge turn out, and Tim Sale rocks! Once I get some photograghs I'll be sure to make a post with a full recap of all the activities. It was a truly inspirational day for me.

I just put this together before I turn in for tonight, I've got another big day tomorrow at work.

Earth 2 Free Comic Book Day

This Saturday, May 3rd, I will be one of the features artists for Earth 2 -Free Comic Book Day. I'm really looking forward to this event. I will be drawing quick sketches of superheroes for customers along with Tim Sale. I am a huge fan of Tim's work on "Heroes" and "Spider-man Blue". So, I'm sure it's going to be a blast to finally meet him in person. I haven't drawn any personal work in consistently in months. Hopefully, this event can get me out of an obvious slump. This is going to be a lot of fun, hope to see you guys there!

So how have you been?

Yeah, it has been awhile since my last post. So much for consistency! Anyway, I have cleaning out my art cabinet, where I keep way to many old drawings. I came across this pic I did a few years back. I figured this would be an appropriate choice to post since TMNT comes out on DVD tomorrow. I have also been working on an animation project with Justin Rodriguez. He has actually started posting some concept art we have done so far. Soon I shall follow in his steps. Hopefully, it doesn't take six months! HA!

Last post before the Big One

I am moving to Tarzana today, so I thought I would post something before I move. Thank you everyone for visiting the site last year. This year I'll try and be more consistent with my posts.

Still at it!

Did this doodle just before bed. Been very busy taking art classes in the evening after work. Going through some growing pains, but feel that I am beginning to understand design and composition much better. I look forward to posting some finished work in the coming months to finish the year off strong.

Agent Alien Development

This has been a project that I have been kicking around in my head for a few years. I recently buckled down and fleshed out the story and now I am developing the characters. This is the main character and his evolution through the years, the first pic being the earliest. It is a pretty ambitious project, my plan is to develop it as a web animation. I will be designing the characters, backgrounds, props, and animating it by myself. I haven't posted in about a month, however, I do look forward to posting more often as this project progresses.

San Diego Con Sketches!

What a weekend! These are some quick doodles I did Sunday morning from all the inspiration and energy from Saturday. I got a chance to meet in person some of my favorite artists and picked up their sketchbooks too! I finally got to meet David Coleman, Alberto Ruiz, Patrick Morgan, Ovi,Paul Harmon, Chris Sanders, Louie Del Carmen ( I actually thought it was Ronnie, my bad. We had a good laugh!) I also gotto see some of my other favorite artists that I haven't seen in a while and picked up there stuff! Steve Silver, John Nevarez, and Jose Lopez. Damn, I even met Stan Lee!!! I had a lot of great talks, and thanks to everyone for all your positive feedback from my work, it always helps. Your suggestions and encouragement was awesome. As a result I cracked open some sketchbooks and just started drawing Sunday morning. I love to use the work of others as a learning tool, and I always try to learn what they have learned. Some of the drawings intentionally resemble the original art, some do not. I try to use the same shapes but change the character. While some drawings you just want to mimic just cause their cool!

I hung out with Hector and Seed from the "Lullaby" comic along with Nino Agular and some of the other guys from the Alias booth. We went to Hooters afterwards, it was real nice ;) Good times man!

Ninja Girl

What up! This is another character done in Flash. I'm just getting used to drawing on the stage with my tablet. I'm actually developing a story with this character. This is still the developmental stage, so there will be more versions of this character that I'll be posting in the future.

Life drawing

These are some recent studies that I've done. I have actually been working more with models latley. Or using my Pecks Anatomy book to better understand what I'm actually drawing. It always helps my designs so much when I spend time with this stuff. Glen Vilppu will be coming back to the U.S from Europe in September, and I'm really looking forward to studing with him. Figure drawing is something that I truly want to master. There are also some painting classes I want to take the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Arts too. I like working digital, but there is so much you can pick up with traditional. So I look forward to that as well.

Bear with me

Hey, I did this today with grey prisma color marker and pastel! I have been inspired by a lot of great artist that do really cool cartoons of animals. I figure I'll take a stab at it. Plus I'll need to start drawing more animals to show future employers my versatility. This was fun!

Morning Workout

I usually start every morning thumbnail designs leading up to the afternoon. I liked this particular character and decided to finish him. I moved through it pretty quick, I usually take my time and revise and fix my drawings about three or four times before I take into photoshop. There are some parallel lines that need to be corrected before this becomes a portfolio piece .

And let there be........COLOR!

Finished this character in phototshop! I could add some touch ups on him in a couple of days when I look at it and think its garbage. So far I am pretty happy with the desaturated color combination I chose.

Experiment with Flash MX 2004

I have been experimenting with this character using Flash as an illustration tool. It felt a lot like giving birth. However, I am pleased with the results since it was my first time.

oldies but goodies

I created these characters a few years ago at the Animation Academy in Burbank. I was taking a visual development class and I really wanted to get good at tone and value using Prisma color markers. Learning those skills help my artwork a great deal and also prepared my for color.

Last Sundays Workshop

I attended a workshop last weekend at the Entertaiment Art Academy in Pasadena. The instructor was the one and only John Nevarez. If some of you don't know John, he is an incredible talent and one of the most generous people you could ever meet. He demonstrated his approach on layout and character design which was very exciting. Here are some of the drawing doodles that I did during the session. Lately, I have been drawing with my ballpoint on copy paper; its the cheapest sketchbook. I took some of the images and added a little color with photoshop when I returned home. It was an encouraging time at the workshop with a huge turn out. If any of you out are able to attend another workshop with John, I highly reccomend it.
